My English Roots Are Showing

Ever since moving to Atlanta, GA 16 years ago I have had to defend why I leave my Christmas decorations up until the end of twelfth night which is technically Jan 5th - morning of Jan 6th.

It's been a pet peeve of mine why southerners always take their tree down the day after Christmas. They go so far as to believe it is bad luck having any Christmas decorations what so ever in sight when ringing in the New Year.

Being that I was raised by an English mother my traditions are the exact opposite of my neighbors. So in my own defense I went in search of the true meaning of 12th night. Read with an open mind and learn.

However I do believe it is every one's right to celebrate this personal holiday as they see fit as long as it doesn't infringe upon the rights of others. So with that said and a smile on my face I will continue to turn on my Christmas lights every night all the way up till Jan 5th!
